Quentin Tarantino Confirmed To Direct HATEFUL EIGHT, Kicking Around Possible Sci-Fi Film

With the rush of comic-con behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to the end of the year, awards season, and, recently, we got an update from one of the season’s golden boys, Quentin Tarantino, about the state of his upcoming projects. The director’s latest, The Hateful Eight, has been through a heck of a year that started with a lawsuit over a leaked script and continued with a live reading of the same script. Since then, speculation has run rampant over whether or not Tarantino would direct the film, but now we can confirm that it’s indeed his next project thanks to this teaser poster that’s been released by Empire Magazine:

Now that’s something we can get behind, especially with that classic CinemaScope logo in the lower right. A wonderful nod to those in the know.

But The Hateful Eight isn’t the only thing on the rise for Tarantino as, thanks to quotes that have been transcribed by Indiewire, the man has stated that he’s kicking around a sci-fi idea at the moment, thought clarifying that for now it’s just in the early staged. “If you had asked me a few years ago I would have said: ‘Nah, not really, I don’t know,’” said Tarantino. “But i have a little idea right now. It’s a little flower, you know, like a bean sprout, but those tend to grow into stalks. So this is the first time I’ll be able to say ‘maybe.’ It won’t be a spaceship sci-fi, it’ll be Earthbound.”

If there’s one thing Tarantino loves to do, it’s pay homage to the classic artists of a genre, so who knows what film lover nuggets we might see in a Tarantino sci-fi film. At this point, all we know is we want to see whatever the man has brewing, especially in that genre.

Personally I’d be really excited for whatever zany-but-familiar futuristic sci-fi-inspired dialogue Tarantino is sure to deliver!

Just FYI, those quotes aren’t from an interview with Indiewire. They are from his panel at SDCC last week.
