Pumpkin Cinnamon Spice Donut Fried Chicken Burger Is As Amazing As It Sounds

Fall is here, and with it comes flavor favorites like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, donuts, fried chicken, burgers, pressed juices…? You read that right, Chomp Eatery in Santa Monica, CA has unveiled their new fall menu and a brand new item to entice you into a loving, delicious food coma: their new Cinnamon Crumb Doughnut Fried Chicken Burger. That’s a mouthful in more ways than one.

The name alone could knock you into a food stupor. While I was apprehensive, I took Chomp up on their offer to come in and try it for myself. After all, when you’re offered fried chicken and donuts, the answer should always be resounding yes.

The idea of donut bun wasn’t just a ploy, it was a clever partnership. Chomp is located next door to the renown LA donut shop DK’s Donuts. Since DK’s Donuts is known for their innovative donuts, combining forces with Chomp makes the collaboration a perfect match.

Chomp Eatery is a juice bar and burger restaurant, a pairing which sounds strange but is typical in Los Angeles eateries. Organic, locally sourced ingredients are used in all the dishes and this line of juices are cold pressed and bottled in-house.

When the plate arrives, the sandwich looks like a beast. DK’s own Cinnamon Spice Donut is sliced in half and teeters over a Provolone cheese topped fried chicken patty. Don’t worry, there are veggies to balance it out; sliced roma tomatoes and organic arugula, all topped with a pumpkin spice aioli. Pumpkin Spice haters step off, the aioli is magical. It’s creamy and tangy with a hint of spice, and it brings this whole burger together. I had my doubts, but the pumpkin aioli was an excellent match for the sweet, cinnamon-spiced donut.

The dish was a lot lighter than I imagined and before I knew it, I’d eaten the whole thing. Pro-tip, cold pressed juice is a good chaser for a meal of this magnitude.

The Cinnamon Crumb Doughnut Fried Chicken Burger debuts on Chomp’s menu on October 6th for $5.99 and is available only for the month of October. That means your donut-fried-chicken loving self has exactly one month to get your fill. Ready, set, go!
