Prepare to Watch Not Much Happen in Twitch Plays DARK SOULS Run

Remember the madness that was Twitch Plays Pokémon last year? Fans all over the world banded together and tackled Pokémon Red over the course of 16 days via a never ending stream of nearly random commands entered into the chat. If you thought that was crazy, wait until you get a load of the TwitchPlaysDark channel where the same method is being applied to Dark Souls. Did I just say Dark Souls? Yes, I did.

See for yourself below:

What possessed Twitch to take on Dark Souls is way beyond me. Pokémon and Metal Gear are one thing, but Dark Souls? The game relies on precise timing, and focus. I find finishing the game or even defeating a single boss extremely unlikely, but Twitch is going to try anyways, and we’re all going to watch.

As of right now, not much has happened. The audience has managed to craft a cleric named “otwasd”. If playing via chat input wasn’t difficult enough, they’re starting off as a cleric. All I can say is, good luck with that.

Aside from that, the majority of the time has been spent rolling around, bringing up the menu tons of times, and figuring out how to climb a ladder. I have to hand it to them though, they’ve progressed a tiny bit and are currently near the first bonfire outside the room where you first encounter the Asylum Demon.

I haven’t seen the crew fight any enemies yet, but I can’t imagine that going well at all. I’m not sure how long this will last, or if they’ll ever open the door they’ve been standing outside of for the past hour, but if someone was able to play the game using only voice controls, maybe there’s a shred of hope for Twitch Plays Dark Souls.
