Prepare For a Blast of Nostalgia With THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE: MORROWIND

In 2002, Bethesda Game Studios introduced fans to the island of Vvardenfell in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. If you (like us) spent countless hours wandering around on the Black Isle, and have been craving a return to those faraway fantasy lands, I’ve got some great news for you! On Tuesday, Bethesda hosted a special Twitch livestream to unveil the next chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online, and on June 6, players will be able to embark on a new set of adventures, set 600 years in the past in The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind. Check out the official trailer at the top of the page for a taste of what’s to come.

Also, here’s the archived stream in case you missed it:

The expansion will retail for $39.99 (if you already have the base game), and $59.99 for all existing Elder Scrolls Online content, and the DLC. The expansion is a bit on the pricy side, but it might be worth the upgrade—especially if you’ve been enjoying The Elder Scrolls Online. According to the announcement, Morrowind will include over 30 hours of new story content, access to an all-new (to TESO, at least) area, Vvardenfell, a three-team PVP mode, as well as an additional class, and trial.

If you’re new to TESO, don’t worry; the expansion gives new players the option to jump right into the thick of things without needing to play past content (though they will have access to it with the full version). There will be a new tutorial, led by the Morag Tong assassin, Naryu Virian (pictured in the trailer), who will also be returning for the new adventure. I for one will probably be starting over so I can play as a Warden.

For the first time since TESO‘s launch, The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind is adding a brand new class, The Warden. We don’t know too much about the class yet, aside from the fact that it uses nature-based magic, and is capable of controlling a freaking badass bear (and a variety of other animals). According to the stream, the War Bear is the Warden’s Ultimate, and will fight by your side until death. Players will be able to buff and heal the creature. Also, Cliff Racers are making a comeback, so there’s that.

As for Vvardenfell itself, it’s the largest zone in TESO to date, and was recreated directly from The Elder Scrolls III. So far, we know that players will be visiting familiar locations such as Balmora and Vivec City (which is still under construction in the expansion). Speaking of Vivec, the god is part of the main story arc. He’s losing power, and the player is tasked with helping him.

In addition to the two versions mentioned above, Bethesda will also be offering a digital collector’s edition for $79.99, and a physical collector’s edition for $99.99. The physical version (pictured above) features a cool 12-inch Dwarven Colossus statue, 176-page book, a map of Morrowind, and a metal case.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind launches on PC, PS4, Xbox One June 6.
