What do you get when you combine members of bands Happy Fangs (specifically, Rebecca Bortman) and Scissors for Lefty (specifically, Bryan Garza)? Apparently, love: the two are a tremendously happy couple who are so tremendously happy that they are set to be bound in holy matrimony this weekend — congratulations! Together, they are also a new band called Love, Jerks and they will be performing a new love-themed rock opera at their wedding.
Although we won’t be at the ceremony ourselves, we do feel like we are at least a small part of it since we are excited to premiere the San Francisco duo’s new single “Gold Sparkle”, which you can listen to below:
The psychedelic track has the lovebirds trading off on lead vocals, and that combination, along with their hazy, old-school instrumentation, is about as beautiful as Bortman’s account of her first date with Garza:
Ever wish your dream man would just vroom up on a vintage motorcycle, reveal that he’s wearing a rhinestone T-Rex shirt, take you out for a slice of pizza and order the classiest basket carafe of wine in the whole pizza parlor? Yeah, me too! And Saturday (tomorrow) we’re getting married!
If you thought they were too cute before, here’s what Garza told us about writing “Gold Sparkle”:
When writing this song, I wanted to avoid a long winded story. Rather, I wanted to just focus on a finite moment in time. ‘Gold Sparkle’ mirrors the first few minutes of meeting Rebecca. Seeing her leaning against a wall, jay-walking towards her, butterflies, losing track of time and space, first words…
We’re fighting back tears here, so please just listen and bask in the beautiful love.
