Premiere: Purple’s ‘Mini Van’ is the Grungy GREASE Revival We Didn’t Realize We Needed

If Grease rocked a hell of a lot more and featured less leather and more thrift store clothing, then consider Purple guitarist/vocalist Taylor Busby our Danny Zuko and drummer/vocalist Hanna Brewer the modern day Sandy Olsen.

After listening to the Texas-based rockers’ brand new song “Mini Van”, we could use a whole lot more of what they got. We have been listening nonstop and are happy to premiere the song and its accompanying video above.

What they have is an amalgamation of the Beastie Boys’ aggressive but happy-go-lucky raps, the lo-fi and relatable everyman aesthetic of Mac DeMarco, and the garage rock chops of The White Stripes. In the clip, as the respective crews of Brewer and guitarist/vocalist Taylor Busby cruise around in their vehicles of choice–hydraulic-laden pick-up for Brewer, the titular mini van for Busby–the two trade off with raps about vehicle-based courtship, eventually meeting up to eat a whole mess of shellfish.

There’s no getting around how super fun this song and video are, and we can only imagine that the good vibes translate strongly to a live setting. If you’re in the Midwest this November, we can’t encourage you enough to find Purple on a stage near you. Check out their tour dates below, and keep tabs on their goings-on at their Facebook page.
