Premiere: Moon Bounce’s ‘Not It’ Remix Shoots You Into Outer Space

In 2015, Philadelphia is known more for its pop punk and DIY roots than its electro-pop. Moon Bounce is looking to change that.

The local act has a huge sound full of bright landscapes and glitchy pop. Corey Regensburg, the man behind the moniker, is a mutant pop pioneer in that sense. He isn’t afraid to look beyond the brutal honesty of lyrics for something that moves you in a different way, and not just with an urge to dance, too. Regensburg’s music latches onto the percussive rhythm of underground dance with the gloss of Japanese pop. Combined, they rocket into a place all their own.

New York chamber pop band All Boy/All Girl recently released their Trophy EP through Grind Select. Regensburg, who introduced them to the label, snatched up “Not It” off the EP and remixed it as an unofficial ode to them being on the same label now. Moon Bounce changes gears on the remix, finding an exciting blend between their two styles that resonates rather well with trip hop, synth, and Super Monkey Ball-like energy. If Moon Bounce was a tour guide, this would be his gleeful adventure through outer space.

All Boy/All Girl’s original song is half the pace, humming along to a high-pitch frequency beep akin to Owen Pallett’s rhythms, while guitar slowly builds up in the background. Throughout it all, their vocalists pave the way with eerie slides that feel reminiscent of Dirty Projectors or Ava Luna. By latching onto those vocals and speeding things up, Moon Bounce creates a song that’s less emotionally nostalgic and more comfortably optimistic, suggesting a brighter side is always around the bend.
