Premiere: Jose Gonzalez’s Video for ‘Let It Carry You’ is a Strange Cosmic Trip

Incandescence, smoke filled hearths, damp auburn leaves. Jose Gonzalez’s music calls to mind is the assemblage of specifics that comprise the miasmic vagueness that is nostalgia. After a summertime hibernation, Gonzalez’s 2015 album Vestiges & Claws, released last February, has reemerged just in time for fall as though the album were prompting you to remember/misremember where you were and what you were doing all those months ago.

Whether or not you are struggling to fill in the gaps or are plumbing some greater cosmic nostalgia, Gonzalez has a visual aid to help you make new associations with his latest single, “Let It Carry You”, the second track from his album. It’s super weird, as you’ll see. In the video below, a strange potato-elephant creature ponders the passing of time, as he evolves from a sedentary to mobile to airborne. As the hushed missive marches forward, so does our bizarre looking protagonist, in lockstep with Gonzalez’s almost percussive guitar playing. Watch below as the potato guy takes flight toward the moon.

If you are digging the track, I highly recommend you check out the rest of Vestiges & Claws which is full of Gonzalez’s distinctly sibilant hymnals. And also check out his tour dates below, so that you can have future nostalgic pangs about the time you caught him live.
