POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID Crossover Threatens Teams from Multiple Eras

In 1993, the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers kicked off a series that has lasted 24 seasons, with several different teams and heroes along the way. To celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary in 2018, Boom! Studios is launching a comic book crossover event called Power Rangers: Shattered Grid, which will unite the original team and their successors against a threat that may destroy them all.

Power Rangers: Shattered Grid will begin on March 21, 2018 in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 by writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele Di Nicuolo. That issue will feature the return of Lord Drakkon, an evil alternate version of Tommy Oliver, as he leads his army across the dimensional void to execute his revenge. “Lord Drakkon’s plan is so much bigger than our Rangers, our world, and even our universe,” explained Higgins. “The Grid is shattering, every Power Ranger in all of existence is at risk, and it’s going to take more than just the Mighty Morphin team to stand against Drakkon’s armies.”

Things don’t look very good for the Red Ranger in that cover by Goñi Montes. Each of the main Rangers’ helmets will be featured in variant covers for this issue, which will come in a black polybag to prevent spoilers. In April, the storyline will continue in Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #9. And according to Go Go Power Rangers writer Ryan Parrott, “a fan-favorite Ranger from the future is going to arrive, searching for Drakkon—and end up dividing our team in a very personal way. Thematically, Go Go has always been about examining the past in order to understand the future—and there’s no clearer way of doing that than smashing them into one another in real time.”

The crossover will run through Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers, in addition to two special one-shots. Veteran artists Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man) and Jordan Gibson (Howard the Duck) will also contribute covers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25. But the most enticing cover for that issue will likely be Scott Koblish’s epic illustration of every Power Rangers team ever.
