Postmodern Jukebox Tackles David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’

Oh hello there and welcome back to another installment of “Nerdist loves absolutely everything Postmodern Jukebox creates.” If you’re just joining us, you should know that we’ve now had a long and torrid love affair with every cover song that Scott Bradlee and his PMJ team create. It’s a whirlwind relationship really, the formula for which goes something like this:

  1. PMJ beautifully covers a song.
  2. We can’t help but love it.

Postmodern Jukebox’s ability to take an already hit song and re-imagine it in a classic style is just plain fantastic—and almost always fun. With the recent passing of the one-and-only David Bowie, it is fitting that Bradlee and his crew would pay homage to the man with a cover of his 1977 tune “Heroes.” And it’s only aided by the immensely powerful vocals of Nicole Atkins. Properly covering a Bowie song is some seriously tricky business, but Atkins and PMJ do it wonderfully and in a style that seems right at home for the song. Is there anything they can’t do?!

But that’s not all for this cover: to honor Bowie and his brave battle with cancer, a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of “Heroes” will go the Cancer Research Institute. So you should definitely download this or anything from their extensive catalog on iTunes.

What are your favorite PMJ songs? What covers of Bowie tunes stick with you? What Bowie song do you wish PMJ did and in what style? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
