Posters for the Next Five Doctor Who Episodes

Hide

We’ve had three Doctor Who episodes so far and we now have the posters for the final five episodes of the season. The above is the poster for “Hide,” the Neil Cross-penned ghost story which will air on BBC America at 8/7c this Saturday (followed by, you know what, Orphan Black and The Nerdist). This poster has been out for awhile, but now the BBC has released posters for the rest.

Journey

“Journey to the Center of the TARDIS,” for which I am very excited, will feature Clara getting lost in the TARDIS after a crisis on board and the Doctor having to try to find her. I’m all for anything that features the TARDIS interior, especially if it goes all M.C. Escher like the poster suggests. It’s written by Stephen Thompson and directed by Mat King.

Crimson

“The Crimson Horror” written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Saul Metzstein will feature the Doctor’s return to Victorian London and see the return of Lady Vastra, Jenny, and Strax. Yay! It’s also got guest star Diana Rigg. How much do you think Matt Smith begged to get to wear a bowler?

Silver

“Nightmare in Silver” will see the return of the Cybermen, this time in a new design and hopefully a scarier story than before. It ought to be; it’s written by Neil Gaiman and is directed by Stephen Woolfenden who was the second unit director on the last three Harry Potter films.

And the finale, “The Name Of The Doctor,” which is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Saul Metzstein. Boy, that Saul Metzstein’s sure been working a lot; he directed five episodes since last year. Now before everybody freaks out about whether or not we should know the Doctor’s name, just remember that River Song has to be told it at some point so that she can know it in her final appearance:

  1. Kat austin says:

The name given in classic Who was just a nick name it was not his name just what they called him… I want to know yet I don’t

  2. emceeglam says:

The poster shows the title “The Name of the Doctor” with Gallifreyan lettering superimposed on the English text, which provides more support for speculation that the Name will indeed be revealed, possibly even on camera, but visually and not in a way that will spoil 50 years of Whovian innocence.

If the reveal happens in River’s presence, that will explain her knowing the Name in the Library — River can read Gallifreyan (we know from the scene in A Good Man Goes to War with the cot).

His name never needs to be spoken for it to be “revealed.”

  3. JoshPossible says:

I hope he does at least one more season. One: Because I love 11. Matt Smith, you are great. Two: I’m afraid then it will become expected that each Doctor gets 3 Seasons. Let’s not make that canon. Baker did it forever, why not Smith!!

  4. charlie says:

We may not hear his name revealed but it’ll probably be the key to unlocking the Time War or something, setting up the next phase of DW stories. They gotta figure out some way to make his next regen not be his last!

  5. Jdge says:

No, he told River to look into his eye…

  6. Jason says:

Didn’t the Doctor whisper his name to River in the episode where they were married?

  7. Kirk says:

I thought it was already announced that next regeneration will be on the Christmas special. They are filming the 50th anniversary special right now with both Matt Smith and David Tennant.

  8. Keith says:

I think Smith is signed thru 2014, so no regenerating at the end of “The Name of the Doctor”.

As for the name… John Smith. With a silly “Well, it’s not spelled exactly as you’d think, or pronounced PRECISELY the same in native Gallifreyan, but it…yeah. It’s John Smith. Brilliant, eh? No one ever believes that’s someone’s REAL name” kinda explanation.

  9. Xenia says:

What if his actual name is pronounced Larry…or something?

  10. Motley Who says:

Tell me the Doctor’s name. Don’t tell me the Doctor’s name. Whatever. I’m not paying for it, I’m just along for the ride. I can’t. Fucking. Wait! #excited #soexcited #thatiforgot #thatyoucant #hashtagoutsideof #twitter

  11. Casen says:

If they reveal the Doctor’s name, I swear I’ll sh*t bricks and throw them at my TV.

  12. Jordan says:

They won’t reveal his name. The question holds some gravitas, the answer- not so much.

It won’t exactly be a mind-blowing revelation to hear some random made up word.

  13. Ted Larsen says:

Check out the episodes of the Fourth Doctor: The Armageddon Factor. Drax calls him by his Gallifreyan name from the Academy.

  14. tom says:

his name wont mean anything to us because it will be in an alien language… heck we dont even know Captain Jacks real name …

  15. MischaD says:

I don’t want to know the Doctor’s name…if they really are being that literal. And I am not too old to shove my fingers in my ears and chant “LALALALALA” just to avoid hearing it!

  16. KamenWeaver says:

I fully believe Matt Smith is Regenerating after this, and if not soon after that. Dunno why but I can just feel it

  17. Eric says:

So will “silence fall’ in the last episode?

  18. Renee says:

Yes, well, River can find it out off-screen or something. We don’t need to know the Doctor’s name. We haven’t known it for 50 years. Why do we need to start now?
