PlayStation’s POWERS Sets Premiere Date

Sony PlayStation’s Powers finally has a premiere date! The series based on the comic books by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming will launch on March 10th on the PlayStation Network. It’s the first live-action series for PlayStation, and it will be interesting to see how the decision to keep it on PlayStation will affect the number of viewers. The show will only be available for PlayStation Plus members, but to draw people in, they’ll share the first episode online so everyone can tune in.

If you haven’t read the comic, Powers takes place in a world where anyone can develop superhero abilities. Those who have special abilities are known as, you guessed it, Powers. You can imagine the kind of threat Powers can pose to society if they decide to use their skills for evil. Enter the Powers police division and Detectives Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward). They investigate all cases related to super powers. We got a first look at the series at New York Comic Con, and it’s already apparent that being on PlayStation Network gives them certain freedoms such as the freedom to curse. Frequently.

You won’t need to read the comic book to watch the series though. While there are similarities, the first season isn’t following the comic to the letter. That first season will have 10 episodes, and they’ll be released differently than Netflix’s original series. Three episodes of Powers will drop on March 10th and subsequent episodes will be released one per week on Tuesdays.

Are you planning to watch Powers? What do you think of the distribution method? Head to the comments and let us know what you’re thinking.

We have AT&T U-Verse and would love to watch this. Will we be able to?

You need PlayStation Network and a PlayStation 3 or 4 to watch. It was going to be on FX but they passed on it.
