Pixar’s Next Film, INSIDE OUT Takes Us Into the Mind of a Tween Girl

In the last six years, Pixar has only released one non-sequel (Brave). But it looks like 2015 will be the return of the daring and original studio that brought us Wall-E and Up, with the release of Inside Out, from director Pete Docter.

At least, that’s the impression I’m getting about this trip inside of the mind of an 11-year-old girl. Here’s the official synopsis released over the weekend:

“From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.”

Inside Out is one of two Pixar films on the way in 2015: November 25th brings us The Good Dinosaur from Up writer-director Bob Peterson (who’s been pulled from the project) and animator Peter Sohn.

    Herman’s Head rip off!

  2. Shayde says:

I’m gonna SUE!!! Lewis Black has been my inner voice for anger for 10 YEARS!!! Hader has only been my inner voice for naughtiness for the last three.

  3. Looks interesting. The character designs look interesting. I do wonder will there ever be a time where hollywood won’t use stars to voice films and go instead with voice actors in the lead roles. I don’t see the benefit. The public doesn’t know or remember what star was in what animated movie.

I remember which actors/actresses voiced which animated characters. So do my kids. My kids actually like finding out they know who the actor or actress is, that does the voice.

    Ooooh, Herman’s Head, tween edition.

That is exactly the first thing I thought. The second thing I thought is that is the SECOND time in a week I was reminded of Herman’s Head. The first time was the finale of Bones. The senator that turned on Booth was Peter Mackenzie, Genius on HH 😉
