Itâs been two decades since Randy Newman sang âYou Got a Friend in Meâ about Buzz and Woody, but all these years later we know he could have been singing about so many other beloved characters in Pixarâs films. With their newest film, The Good Dinosaur, set to be released next month (almost twenty years to the day of Toy Storyâs release), Pixar has a wonderful new ad for the movie celebrating the many friendships that have touched so many of us.
In the ad, we’re brought through some of the great friendships in Pixar history since Buzz and Woody, like Remy and Linguini from Ratatouille, Carl, Russell, and Dug from Up, Joy and Sadness from Inside Out, Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc., and Dory and Marlin from Finding Nemo.
The ad says, “20 years ago, Pixar showed us that we always have a friend, no matter how small, or unlikely, or different. Friendships like these can last forever, but they all begin in a single moment,” before introducing us to their two newest friends, Arlo the dinosaur and his human friend Spot, in what they say will be “a truly unforgettable friendship.”
It was true twenty years ago when Randy Newman sang it, and in Pixar’s world it has been true ever since.
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah you’ve got a friend in me
The Good Dinosaur opens November 25th.
