Music Geek Track Of The Day: NASHVILLE’s Lennon & Maisy Cover Charli XCX’s ‘Boom Clap’

Odds are, if you’re already a fan of the TV series Nashville, then you’ve been smitten by the musical talents of sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella, who play Connie Britton‘s young daughters, Maddie and Daphne, respectively.

Throughout the show’s run, the siblings haven’t been shy about showing off their vocal talents. In fact, when the pair isn’t harmonizing with each other on songs like The Lumineers‘ “Ho Hey” or , 15-year-old Lennon can be heard singing alongside her on-screen father, Deacon Claybourne (Chip Esten) on the original tune “A Life That’s Good,” which was penned by famed country singer/songwriters Ashley Monroe and Sarah Siskind.

For the girls’ latest musical offering, they’ve put aside the slide guitar and embraced a more pop-friendly tune by covering “Boom Clap” by Charli XCX. No, 15-year-old Lennon and 11-year-old Maisy aren’t trading their wholesome look for something more, um, spandex… Instead, they’re bending the club-banger into a much sweeter version that barely resembles the original. But, like, in a good way.

Fun fact: Charli XCX initially wrote “Boom Clap” for Hilary Duff, who ended up rejecting the song and left it available for the British performer to snag it for herself.

We wonder what Ms. XCX thinks of Lennon & Maisy’s bare-bones homage. If she’s anything like us, then she can’t stop playing it on a loop.

Complain all you want about the vocal distortion and the echo, but that shit’s haunting and the voices be good. The younger girl’s voice sounds like one she’ll grow into well, and for my part it’s just air vibration candy.
