It looks like our beloved #25 is actually… FOURTH on Japan’s most popular Pokélist. That’s right, Japanese Pokémon fans recently ranked all 720 Pokémon from worst to best in a popularity poll. Now, when we think about iconic Pokémon, obviously our brains go to the top cuties and cool guys out thereâwe’re talking Bulbasaur, Snorlax, Psyduck, Lillipup, Togepi, and oh yeah, the ultimate li’l cutie: Pikachu. And somehow none of those perfect pocket monsters topped the chart.
So who did, you ask? Well, the garbage voters of Japan named Greninja as their number one. F***ing Greninja.
That’s right, the monster-frog-ninja that uses his tongue as a scarf because… why not when you’re already literal trash? And sure, Greninja is a pretty cool character in Super Smash Bros. and as far as hybrids go, totally agreed, a frog ninja might be awesome in the real world. (Or, a version of the real world where we anthropomorphize animals and force them to work in traditionally human jobs.) Either way, we can say with 10,000% certainty that it would make a better ninja than that eggplant-looking Drag Race reject Jynx.
But alas, not unlike Jack Johnson, you must be thinking to yourself, “Where’d all the good people go?” Not anywhere where voting for this top ten list took place, that’s for sure! And we’ve gotta be honest with you guysâwe’re flipping out. Who are the people that care about Meloetta? Where are all the classics? And while the top ten does include Mew, Pikachu, and Charizard, Mew is number three! Excuse me? Above our favorite golden electric rat type creature? F**ing savage. Pikachu is everyone’s favorite… or so I thought! And now he’s fourth place in a popularity contest?  We just… we just can’t anymore.
Also Simisear got last place, which we’re admittedly kind of happy about because that guy is straight up gross.
But what do you guys think? Do you agree with Japan? (Please say no). Is Pikachu still number one in your heart? (Please say yes). What hell-dimension did Simisear come from to deserve getting 720th place in the saddest popularity contest since senior yearbook superlatives? Let’s discuss!
