Pickstarter: Periods. Film’s THE GENDERTON PROJECT with Drew Droege

Periods. Films, the Nerdist Alliance members/filmmakers extraordinaire responsible for feature films like Breakup At A Wedding and Hollidaysburg, is trying their hand at Indiegogo crowdfunding for their latest project. They have collaborated with comedian Drew Droege to bring a unique, new LGBT comedy series to the masses called The Genderton Project. You may recognize Droege from his appearances on programs like 2 Broke Girls, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and New Girl. However, he’s probably best known for his spot-on impressions of the actress Chloe Sevigny in that black hole we call the Internet. This role makes him the ideal candidate for a project ripe with gender-fluid challenges.

The Genderton Project tells three interconnecting stories with an emphasis on sexuality and exploring gender roles. The first part of this interwoven tale focuses on a Pasadena housewife who tries to commit suicide when her husband does not credit her for baking him a birthday cake. Luckily, the woman’s lesbian neighbor saves her from killing herself and the housewife embarks on a sexual awakening. In the second story a young boy is gifted an experience with a lady of the night for his bar Bar Mitzvah. The boy becomes the woman’s pimp as she turns into his confidante, live-in nanny, and Hebrew tutor. We will definitely be chatting about that riveting exchange.

Finally, the third plot line follows that same boy, who is now a gay man, as he heads to Palm Springs for a gay wedding with his friends. That story is ripe with alliteration already, folks. You know what they say: what happens in Palm Springs, stays in Palm Springs. Oh, they don’t say that? Anyway, after some major partying the men get lost in the desert and somehow start their own civilization. All these stories will be wrapped up in 6 episodes. The cast also includes Jon Milhiser from SNL and Johnny Lisecki from Gayby. The series will deal with important topics like abuse, gender equality, and equal rights with some laughter thrown in for good measure.

To find out the complete details of this interlaced narrative, you will just have contribute to The Genderton Project. Periods. Films is trying to raise $15,000, which really isn’t that much considering how much a certain kitten-based car game made via crowdfunding. Cough, $8 million-plus, cough. When the campaign closes, production will commence in April, followed by post-production and release in the summer. Plus, 2% of the total funds will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign, so it’s a win-win! It’s time to put those dollars to good work. Happy spending!
