Pickstarter: Our Favorite Crowdfunded Projects 6/17

Happy Father’s Day, everyone! This week we’re taking a look at a space suit for the private sector, a dangerously imaginative puppy dog and a hostage situation you’ll want to get looped into on your phone.

Pick#1 – Final Frontier Design’s 3rd Generation Space Suit

After watching Prometheus, we couldn’t help but want to own one of those nifty Weyland spacesuits for ourselves. Final Frontier Design is looking to be the first out of the gate for commercial space travel’s clothing needs by upgrading their existing space suits to a 3rd generation design. The suits are designed for use in vehicle, so don’t expect to take a space walk in them, but they will save your life in the event of loss of pressure or oxygen. The next generation of the Final Frontier is looking good.

Pick #2 – Danger Pug

First off, there is going to be a book called Danger Pug. Can we all just take a second to appreciate how cool that is and how weird it is that it didn’t exist before now? The title alone just screams, “READ ME!” Danger Pug is the story of a a runt pup with a very active imagination who has adventures without ever leaving the house. So it’s cute and inspiring. Like the Magic School Bus, only with something adorable instead of a mildly terrifying anthropomorphic bus.

Pick #3 –The Hostage Trials

What if Tamagotchis had stuck around, but instead of being your digital pet, they were sadistic villains trying to kidnap your friends? That’s the basic concept of The Hostage Trials. In the game, your friend has been kidnapped and you have three days to save their life from a twisted villain voiced by David Hayter (the voice of Solid Snake!), but it’s not 3 days in a game. You have 3 days in real time to complete the challenges. Part ARG and part audio adventure, The Hostage Trials will treat your mobile device as an interface for a new way to game. Where’s Jack Bauer when you need him? Or at least Johnny Depp from Nick of Time?

    The Hostage Trials looks crazy!
I love it because it going outside the gaming comfort zone…. Outside the box ideas is why everyone should get involved with Kickstarter and support small game developers 🙂

The Hostage Trials sounds cool, but most people work 40 hours a week. They aren’t going to buy a game where they have to be available 24/7. Sounds cool in concept, but they would have to come up with a creative pitch to get people to buy it.

Danger Pug sounds cool too, but I was hoping it was going to be a series of books (like Curious George, but fine to write in comic form) instead of a comic book. I would have probably bought them all as hardcovber children’s books for my kids.
