Whether it’s a comic book, movie, web series, album or a new piece of technology, we love combing through Kickstarter, Indie Go-Go and the myriad of other crowdfunding sites to find projects that are just begging to be made, built, or realized. This week was no exception as a fresh batch of projects have either launched or bubbled to the surface.
Pick #1 – Phil Tippett’s “Mad God”Â
We got tipped off to this amazing looking stop-motion/live action film by our buddy Harry Knowles from the Nerdist Channel’s Ain’t It Cool. Film legend Phil Tippett (Star Wars, Robocop, Dragonslayer)Â is returning to a project he shelved over 20 years ago when his studio became a leader in CGI thanks to his work on Jurassic Park. Tippett wants to go back and incorporate the original stop motion footage he shot in 1990 and expand it with new puppetry, live-action and projector effects. He’ll be doing this while also teaching students about practical effects, stop-motion and creature fabrication. Tim Burton, it’s time to add “crowdfunding investor” to your resume.
Pick #2 – La Verdad: The Webseries
If you’ve ever gone to see a show at the Nerdist Theater in Meltdown Comics, you may have seen Ben Dunn helping out. In addition to a role in the Nerdist Channel‘s upcoming show Nerdterns, Ben is co-producing a web series about a girl trying to find her family in a post-superhero world. The show is set in Salvation, and follows La Verdad, Hispanic heroine, searching for her family while fighting to save the city. They’ve even produced a short film leading into the series called Prelude to Bedlam:
The team hopes to produce 16 episodes and launch the show on October 24, 2012. So there you have it, read your comics and see Avengers now, because come Halloween superheroes are gone.
Pick #3 – Makey Makey: An Invention Kit for Everyone
Controllers have come a long way, from the Wii Remote to the Kinect to touch screens, there is no limit to how we interact with our games and devices. Thanks to the Makey Makey, you can get in on the fun too. The Makey Makey is an invention kit that lets you turn pretty much anything into an input device. Want to make a custom controller for your favorite game? You can do that. Need an elaborate input device for your Rube Goldberg contraption? Makey Makey will come in handy handy.
If you or someone you know has a project youâd like us to talk about, email the relevant information to [email protected].

Thanks!
I was talking about Phil Tippett’s “MAD GOD” by the way. I need an editor.
Best thing about this kickstart project is they just want money for expenses and materials, not wages. They are all working for free. Which is something I don’t see enough of in Kickstart my dream project pitches.
