At the time of writing this, Lobotomy Board Game, a current Kickstarter Staff Pick, is 808% funded. As in, there is some serious fuss being made over this thing. So, what’s it all about?
The idea is, you enter an abandoned psychiatric hospital from your worst nightmare. Each player controls a different crazy character with his/her own backstory and mental illness which defines their skills and powers, such as Schizophrenia, Anxiety Neurosis, and so on. These can all become a terrifying reality at any moment. There is one goal – to escape. Sound simple enough?
Well, to do that you must embrace your past, which may require re-living devastating tragedies, and fight off the Chief Hospital Administrator who holds the keys to the asylum and your freedom. And that’s not easy when you’re descending deeper into madness and thinking all the staff are monsters straight out of classic horror movies, and the warden is the root of all evil.
Does that sound creepy? It is. Check out the teaser below:
Tickle your fancy, but you’re still not sure what it involves? Have no fear. This gameplay tutorial goes right to the core:
What I find really exciting about this game, in addition to the rich story and character elements, is the fact that all characters and monsters have their own miniatures inspired by the horror culture. These are made by the same talented people that produce Lobotomy, TitanforgeGames, a company in Poland. You can browse their fantasy and science fiction collection here.
If you’ve been dying to check out a new game, this is soon to be a staple in game nights everywhere. Look out for purchase details via their Kickstarter page when the campaign ends on 8/31. Also, check out the gallery below for more pictures of the board set up, miniatures, and gameplay cards.
And last but not least, let us know what you think of the game in the comments section! Are you, scared… ?
