Pickstarter: Bone-Conductive Speakerless Headphones

Who’s ready to go to the Bone Zone with StudioBananaThings and me!?

…I wholeheartedly apologize for any confusion. My editors have informed me that the phrase I just used means something entirely different than what I thought. The “StudioBananaThings” part is real though, and they’ve developed a Bluetooth headset that uses bone conduction.

Gone are the days where you have to stick anything in or on your ears to listen to music or phone calls. As you probably guessed, the bone conduction technology literally uses your skull to transmit audio to your inner ear. Basically, you put these on and you hear music inside your head, leaving your ears available to hear the world around you.

If you’re more interested in shutting the world out from everything but their music, maybe this product isn’t for you. However, for those looking to be part of the future and/or cosplay as an everyday backwards Geordi La Forge, the BatBand can be yours for (as of the writing of this article) a fairly decent Kickstarter backing of $149. The lower “early bird” backings were considerably cheaper and, unsurprisingly, are completely sold out. Still, when high-end headphones like Beats, JBL or Harmon Kardon run for a few hundred bucks, $150 for next level technology like this is pretty damn awesome.

While the video above has a somewhat creepy dead-eyed mind-controlled ear pod army of the Cybermen vibe to it, check out the prototype testing below and get your wallet ready immediately after.

Right!? These things seem amazing! Check out StudioBananaThings’ Kickstarter for the BatBand here, and let us know what you think of this sort of tech in the comments below!
