Photographer Built Amazing STAR WARS Scenes with LEGO

Vesa Lehtimäki is a Finnish photographer who’s sure to get a lot more attention in the next month or so as the world prepares for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Because—under the pseudonym Avanaut—he has created some of the most breath-taking photographic scenes using his children’s Star Wars LEGO toys we’ve ever seen. And, in what’s sure to be a surprise to no one, has garnered a lot of attention around the internet for them.

The photo series, LEGO Star Wars: Small Scenes from a Big Galaxy, offers amazingly cinematic set pieces created with the use of LEGO Star Wars toys. With the added environmental effects of sand, wind, and snow, Ayanaut’s photos give a very realistic look at the worlds he’s created with these shiny plastic toys. His work was nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Fan Art in 2015, and will be published as an art book through DK Publishing. The book will come out on November 1o—just in time for fans to scoop up ahead of The Force Awakens‘ release.

Avanaut’s work is predominantly featured on Flickr, and he is quoted by BuzzFeed in saying his images take anywhere from one to eight hours to set up, photograph, touch up, and upload to the internet. “The hardest part is trying to be original, to come up with ideas that haven’t been around yet, but with so many people doing this these days, it’s getting harder and harder.” Luckily, Vesa’s work has already been compiled for a book, so put that one on your holiday gift lists as soon as you can.

Check out some more of his work in the gallery below, and be sure to let us know if you plan to pick up his book when it hits shelves on November 10th in the comments below.
