Time flies when you spend your summers building a rocket, finding a mummy, or climbing up the Eiffel Tower. We’ve all seen Linklater’s Boyhood, right? We understand how life plays out – kids grow up and become teenagers, then young adults.
Even Phineas and Ferb.
That’s right, the pair has a new special called “Act Your Age.” It’s ten years in the future, and a teenage Phineas must decide between two colleges while grappling with the discovery that Isabella has had a crush on him since they were kids. How did he NEVER notice? She had LITERAL hearts in her eyes! Listen to Baljeet break it down for him here:
Ferb and the gang try to bring the two together so they can admit their true feelings for each other before Isabella leaves for school.
Meanwhile, Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz have settled into a nice friendship, until Doof faces a midlife crisis. All those -inators finally catching up with him, I guess.
The designs for the teenage Phineas and Ferb were inspired by artwork that a 25-year-old Canadian superfan and aspiring artist named Ashley Simpson (no, not THAT Ashley Simpson – she’s not related to the recording artist) presented to the creators of Phineas and Ferb at Comic-Con two years ago. After coming up with a storyline that would place Phineas and Ferb in the future, creators Dan and Swampy remembered the drawing, reached out to Ashley via social media, and hired her to work with them on the episode. Here’s the story as told by Dan and Swampy:
No, YOU’RE crying because a young artist’s dream came true.
Phineas and Ferb: “Act Your Age” premieres Monday, February 9, 2015 at 8:30pm ET,  on Disney XD.
This was the best episode ;-;
I don’t usually watch this show (only when my brothers do) but I LOVE stuff like this, when we see characters older. And I love that they are actually tackling a relationship here. Well done, Disney! (And the thing with the artist? PERFECTION.)
Right? I thought that was an amazing story!
Nice. I’m glad a Canadian superfan has her dream come true. I’m her countryman and can’t view the video on this side of the wall. “Tear down that wall!”
I can fix that. If you’re on google chrome there’s an extension called ‘Hola! better internet’ that lets you watch videos from any country. SUPER useful.
