The Showtime revival of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks is continuing to film on location in Washington, bringing familiar faces from the original series and new, well known names to the continuation of the series. We reported a little while back that Les Miserables and Mean Girls star Amanda Seyfried was joining the show in an unspecified role, along with other series newcomers Balthazar Getty and Robert Knepper.

Now it looks like they are being joined by actor Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing, Green Lantern), also in an as yet unknown role. Sarsgaard has a bit of a family connection to Twin Peaks, as his wife Maggie Gyllenhaal’s father Stephen Gyllenhaal was one of the original series’ directors. In fact, Maggie Gyllenhaal was spotted on the set of the new Twin Peaks, but it doesn’t appear she’s in the cast herself.

The security is super tight on the set of Twin Peaks, with no official cast confirmations coming from Showtime themselves, aside from the return of Kyle MacLachlan as Agent Cooper. Confirmed as having been seen on the set in Washington though are original series actors Madchen Amick (Shelly Johnson) Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs) Peggy Lipton (Norma Jennings) Everett McGill (Big Ed Hurley) Wendy Robie (Nadine Hurley)  Russ Tamblyn (Dr. Jacoby) and even veteran character actor Harry Dean Stanton, who played a small part in the prequel film Fire Walk With Me. Heavily rumored to return (but as of yet not spotted on set) are Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne) and Richard Beymer (Ben Horne).

And here’s an extra rumor for you die-hard Twin Peaks fans; also said to be joining the cast is veteran actor Robert Forster, possibly as the new town Sheriff, maybe even replacing the mostly retired Michael Ontkean as Sheriff Harry Truman himself. Forster was originally cast as Truman back in 1989, but had to bow out due to other commitments. Take this one with a big grain of salt for right now; hopefully Twin Peaks 2017 can find room for Ontkean and Forster.

Showtime released a small teaser trailer for the new season with the premiere of Homeland this past Sunday; the teaser doesn’t feature any new footage, but does feature Michael J. Anderson as the so-called “Little Man from Another Place” dancing in the Red Room/Black Lodge to some music from Angelo Badalamenti. Can we take that as a cast confirmation that Mike will be back as well, David Lynch??
