Peter Capaldi Is Leaving DOCTOR WHO in 2017, and More TV News

Doctor Who fans received a jolt at the beginning of the week as Peter Capaldi announced he’d be leaving the series after the 2017 Christmas special. Learn more about his departure in today’s TV-Cap, find out the fate of The Good Place, get some Outlander casting scoop, and more.

It’s Been Fun. The role of the Doctor in Doctor Who is always in flux. Change is at the core of the time-traveling drama. And now, Peter Capaldi’s run has come to an end. While speaking with BBC Radio 2 on Monday, Capaldi revealed series 10 will be his last. He’ll be around through the 2017 Christmas special, in which he’ll regenerate. What does it mean? Kyle A. has some thoughts on Capaldi’s departure here at Nerdist.

Hello, Leads. Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger has cast its lead. The Freeform series set to arrive in 2018 is focused on Tyrone and Tandy, a.k.a. Cloak and Dagger, a young couple with secrets and super powers (Cloak/Tyrone can tap into the darkness dimension and cloak people in a lack of light and Dagger/Tandy can creatie psionic light daggers) who find solace and love with each other. The duo will be played by Aubrey Joseph (Tyrone) and Olivia Holt (Tandy). [Deadline]

And… While we’re talking about casting news, let’s make the jump through the stones to Starz’s Outlander. They’re adding a couple more roles from the books to season three of the show: Gary Young will play Mr. Willoughby (who I am quite looking forward to seeing on screen), Jamie’s pal, and Charlie Hiett will play Captain Thomas Leonard, a young man who gets a field promotion and has to captain a disease-ridden ship.

Fork Yes! I have some holy shirt-level good news, The Good Place fans. The NBC comedy has been renewed for season two! And after that season one finale twist, thank goodness we’re getting more. [TVLine]

Resurrected! Rick Cosnett recently shared on social media that he’d be returning to The Flash, somehow, some way. Whatever is happening to bring Eddie Thawne back to the land of the living, it’s filming now. So here, have a cute picture from set courtesy of Candace Patton. [CBR]

Meet Don Grouper. Jon Hamm in SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s a thing that’s happening. Yep. He’ll be voicing Don Grouper, an advertising exec that will appear in the February 20 episode, “Goodbye, Krabby Patty.” Learn more and see a picture of Grouper here at Nerdist.

Backwards and Forwards. Let’s wrap up TV-Cap in the usual manner, with recaps and reviews. Relive what happened Monday night in Supergirl and Gotham. Then, look into the future and learn what Alicia thinks of season two of The Expanse. The Syfy series returns on February 1.

It’s that time: who do you want to play the next Doctor? Share your top picks in the comments.
