Fans who made it through Daredevil this weekend were rewarded with a short, Netflix-exclusive teaser for Luke Cage, the next Marvel series coming later this year. Mike Colter will reprise his role as title character, following his debut in Jessica Jones last year.
While Marvel TV and Netflix havenât released much information about the Luke Cage series, the first director of the series has revealed himself. On twitter, Paul McGuigan posted the following message:
@empiremagazine @LukeCage …don’t tell anyone but I might have directed the pilot and second episode…just saying.

McGuigan has helmed episodes of Sherlock, the pilot episode of Scandal, as well as the feature films Push, Wicker Park, Lucky Number Slevin, and Victor Frankenstein. It seems like McGuigan is a pretty solid choice to set the tone for the 13 episodes of Luke Cage.
Cheo Hodari Coker is the showrunner of Luke Cage, and the series will take place after the events of Jessica Jones season 1. Cage will resurface in Harlem before he gets âpulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city â forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.â
Simone Missick co-stars in Luke Cage as Misty Knight, with Theo Rossi as Shades, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Mahershala Ali as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, and Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe. Rosario Dawson will also reprise her role as Claire Temple.
Luke Cage will premiere on Friday, September 30.
