Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson’s Duet, ‘Say Say Say’ Gets a New Video

You might not have known that Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson recorded a a couple of duets together, but they sure did. And back in 1983, they had a number-one hit tune was called “Say Say Say.” The song is now back in headlines again, as a “remix” video has been created to promote the remaster of McCartney’s album, Pipes of Peace. The song itself has also been remixed, featuring previously-unheard vocals from McCartney and Jackson. If you’re a fan of either legend (and who isn’t?), you’re in for a treat.

The black-and-white video is full of energy, featuring today’s youth dancing through the streets. It was directed and choreographed by Ryan Heffington, who has also worked with Lady Gaga and Sia. To us, it feels reminiscent of the scene in Billy Elliot, where Billy lets off steam by dancing and twirling down the sidewalk.

Like what you hear? How about comparing it to the original video? This one was directed by Bob Giraldi, who has since directed a number of Michael Jackson “Greatest Hits” documentaries and video segments.

In a press release, McCartney recalls getting a call from Jackson out of the blue: “He (Michael) rang me up, and I didn’t believe it was him, so I said ‘who’s this?” He said ‘Michael’. Are you sure… Michael who?!” McCartney says. “Anyway, we had a joke about that kind of thing, and he said, ‘yeah, I’d like to come over and write with you,’ so I said great. So he came over to England and we just sat down.”

The rest, as they say, is glorious history. What do you think of the remix video? Is it up your alley? Let us know in the comments below.
