Paul Bettany Discusses Playing The Vision in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Paul Bettany is right by Tony Stark’s side and often saving his rear as J.A.R.V.I.S. He’s faithful, and he’s funny. There’s nothing quite like hearing snark from J.A.R.V.I.S. However, Bettany is stepping into a presumably bigger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron; He’s going to be playing another robotic character, The Vision. The hero has more powers than J.A.R.V.I.S., and Bettany teased a little about the role during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Vision talk starts at the 1:25 mark:

Obviously, Marvel is very secretive about everything, so Bettany couldn’t reveal any details. When Kimmel asks about what The Vision can do, Bettany says, “He can do all sorts of things, but I’m not allowed to really talk about them and what we’re going to do because there might be a Marvel agent in the room who will actually wrestle me to the ground and fire me.”

He explains that even though the comics show off The Vision’s powers, Marvel picks and chooses what to put in the film. And now, Bettany has more to do. He teased that it’s cool to take on a different role, but it means more work: “My job was I would turn up at a recording studio for 45 minutes, do all my stuff, they would give me a huge bag of cash, and then I’d go home. Now, it turns out they’ve found me out and they want me to actually, you know, do something!”

Are you looking forward to seeing Bettany as The Vision? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Brian says:

I’m thinking that JARVIS is going to be downloaded into the android body, and become the Vision…

  2. Absolutely delighted that this is FINALLY confirmed.
Bettany has been one of my favourite actors for years – ever since I first saw him in A Knight’s Tale – and Vision is one of my favourite characters, so this is a fantastic combination in my eyes.
    Can’t wait for AOU now.

  3. JS says:

The way I’m understanding everything, is that they’re not sticking to the canon of the comics for this one. JARVIS and The Vision are essentially one in the same. Stark puts JARVIS into his own “body” and The Vision is born.

Same as the Ultron storyline. Apparently, Stark “builds” Ultron, and Ultron turns on him…

Don’t take what I’ve put here as gospel, it’s still only speculation.

  4. Ben S says:

He could use the same voice as JARVIS. Since Pym would not have been introduced yet Ultron may be based mostly on Stark tech, then it wouldn’t be stretch that Ultron uses JARVIS as a template for The Vision.

  5. Ben Z says:

So, will he be both JARVIS and Vision? I hope he uses a different voice for Vision.
