Patti Smith Recorded A Song For AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE’s Final Episode. What?

Patti Smith was a key figure in New York’s punk rock scene in the ’70s. Rolling Stone named her 1975 debut album Horses the 44th greatest album to have ever been released. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Patti Smith has been widely acknowledged as one of music history’s most important figures.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is an absurd 12-minute cartoon on Adult Swim that follows the adventures of a sentient milkshake, order of french fries and a rolling hunk of beef. The program has also gone by the titles Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1, Aqua Something You Know Whatever, Aqua TV Show Show, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever, and has aired an episode about an anthropomorphic human penis who built a “dick ship” in an effort to return to his home on “Dick Planet.”

Through an act of whatever all-knowing supernatural being you choose to believe or not believe in, these two entities came together to collaborate creatively. On Sunday, August 23, after 137 episodes over 15 years on the air, Aqua Teen Hunger Force will broadcast its final episode, titled “The Last One Forever and Ever (For Real This Time) (We ****ing Mean It),” and it will feature an original song by Smith, called “Aqua Teen Dream”, a sad and short piano-driven lament. Listen to it below, and soak in the lyrics:

I never dreamed
I’d be an Aqua Teen
Thirteen seasons
What did it mean?
A Master Shake
Meatwad, a floating head
And now you’re dead
And it’s the end
Of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force”
It’s the end
Of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force”

It’s relevant to note that Aqua Teen Hunger Force has also had musical contributions from Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Schoolly D, Flying Lotus and Thundercat, Andrew W.K., and other figures of high repute.

Earth, the floating blue marble we call home… it’s strange, huh?
