Patti Smith’s JUST KIDS Heading to Showtime with PENNY DREADFUL’s John Logan

Perhaps one of the most beautiful and poignant memoirs to come out in the last 20 years, iconic hero to the world Patti Smith’s Just Kids, will have its lush landscape vivified in a limited series on Showtime. And with Penny Dreadful‘s John Logan at the helm, no less!

Announced by the network’s head honcho David Nevins, the glorious news came into the world on Tuesday at the network’s turn at the Television Critics Association’s [seemingly neverending] press tour.

In a press release statement from Smith herself, the artist explained her own hopes and happiness at the news. “A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation. The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book.”

For those not in the know/have yet to read the book (and holy doodle, should you ever), Smith’s memoir documents her entangled relationship with famed, late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe during their more inseparable, early bohemian days in the 1960s, 70s, and up until his death in 1989. The duo’s relationship and encounters with several other notables from the era, including Janis Joplin, Andy Warhol, and Jimi Hendrix help paint a vivid literary universe. Her lush words combined with Logan’s lush world-building is sure to make for truly spectacular viewing.

Are you looking forward to Just Kids‘ TV debut? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
