Patrick Stewart Hints at STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Role

Right now, most of the buzz surrounding Star Trek: Discovery season two is about the upcoming arrival of the original U.S.S. Enterprise and its Captain, Christopher Pike, and possibly also Spock. But could another iconic face from Star Trek lore be showing up soon too? Red Carpet News, via Comic Book,  managed to interview Sir Patrick Stewart recently, and asked the esteemed actor, who became a household name playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, if he had seen any of Star Trek: Discovery yet. Although he said he hadn’t, he did say this: “I may have good cause to look at it very soon.”

Well, that’s seems like a pretty broad hint that the folks at Discovery are trying to get Stewart involved with the series somehow. Now, before fans get too excited, I should mention that this doesn’t necessarily mean that he’d be portraying Captain Picard again. After all, another former TNG cast member, Jonathan Frakes, directs episodes of Discovery regularly, so maybe they are looking for Stewart to direct an episode (He directed a few episodes of his series back in the day). But, more than likely, the producers are probably looking for Stewart to play an acting role of some kind.

So could Sir Patrick be playing Picard again? Although the Next Generation takes place well over a century after Discovery, the franchise does love to employ time travel as a gimmick all the time. And as Patrick the actor is much older than where we last left his character sixteen years ago in Star Trek: Nemesis, so it would be interesting to see what became of a post- Enterprise Jean-Luc. The other (much cheesier) option would be that Patrick Stewart is playing someone else, maybe a relative of Picard’s from that time period. Of course, that would violate continuity as we know Jean-Luc was the first member of his family to leave Earth. So yeah, time travel Captain Picard seems the best option. Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, but his reaction in the video does seem to suggest something is definitely up.

What do you Trekkers out there think? Excited about the prospect of Sir Patrick returning to Trek? And what do we have to do to get him to guest star on Legion?? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments.
