Patrick Fugit and Wrenn Schmidt Share Details on Robert Kirkman’s Upcoming Supernatural Horror Series, OUTCAST

What do you do after one of your graphic novels series is adapted into one of the most popular shows on TV? Well, if you’re Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead comics and writer/producer on the AMC show and its spinoff, Fear The Walking Dead, you take that successful formula of genre and relationship-driven storytelling, and you tell a new story.

Enter Outcast, the new Image comic series and TV series from Kirkman that takes a unique look at another popular subgenre: supernatural horror.

Outcast tells the story of Kyle Barnes, portrayed in the upcoming Cinemax adaptation by Patrick Fugit, a man whose loved ones have been drawn into demonic possession since he was a child. As an adult, he struggles to understand why these supernatural events have followed him all his life… perhaps to the detriment of, oh, you know, all human kind.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Fugit, joined by costar Wrenn Schmidt, who plays Barnes’ adopted sister, took the Conival stage with our own Jessica Chobot to talk about the incredibly human stories behind the ghostly scares, what it’s like to work with Robert Kirkman, and more.

Outcast has been picked up for a full season by Cinemax, but has no release date yet. When it does, you’ll be the first to know — if you’re checking Nerdist for updates, of course!

In the meantime, check out Dan Casey’s round-up of the 6 hottest upcoming comic book TV shows on The Dan Cave (spoiler alert: Outcast is one of them):
