Paramount Announces TRANSFORMERS 5, STAR TREK 3, GI JOE 3 & More for 2016 Release

At the CineEurope Conference in Barcelona Spain, Paramount Studios just released their schedule for the next two years. While most of their 2015 schedule is already known, and includes movies like Terminator: Genesis, the Friday the 13th sequel and Mission Impossible 5, this is the first time we’ve seen official confirmation on their 2016 slate.

At the conference, Paramount revealed for the first time (via the Hollywood Reporter) the highlights of their schedule for the year after next, and if you are a fan of remakes, reboots and sequels, then boy are you in luck, because you are about to get a lot more of them in 2016. Paramount has officially announced Transformers 5, G.I. Joe 3, Paranormal Activity 5, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 and Star Trek 3. Paramount also has their remake of the Charlton Heston classic Ben Hur, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, scheduled for a 2016 release.

Paramount has a slate made up almost entirely of well known IPs. Although their are no known directors attached yet to Transformers 5, it’s not expected for director Michael Bay to return after four movies… although the box office performance of Transformers: Age of Extinction will likely determine that. Star Trek 3 already has a director attached in Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the previous two entries. Beverly Hills Cop 4 is set to feature the return of Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, although both a remake and reboot have been discussed (and almost happened) in the past. And if you are wondering why Hansel & Gretal: Witch Hunters is getting a sequel after only making $55 million at the domestic box office, it’s because it made over $170 million worldwide for a total of $226 million. Though in decades past, the overseas box office made up maybe 20% of the grand total of what the average Hollywood film made, the foreign box office now counts for up to 80% of what a movie ultimately makes. North America is just another territory now.

So what do you think of Paramount’s plans for the next couple of years? Are you excited for all the nerd properties, or are you just about over all these rehashes? Sound off in the comments below.
