PARAGON’s First Gameplay Trailer is Epic

Epic Games unveiled a brand new gameplay trailer for their upcoming title Paragon. The fast-paced, stylish MOBA/third-person shooter hybrid is set to release later this year, but Epic is already getting people acquainted with the game with their pre-release closed alpha. Think of it as a futuristic Smite with verticality playing a bigger role in the gameplay. In this particular trailer (viewable above), a couple of the game’s characters and their classes are shown off in good detail.

Sparrow and Gideon, two of the game’s more human-looking characters, are rushing their enemies core, which is essential when claiming victory. Sparrow is a ranged character whose ability allows her to shoot arrows with precision and in bulk. Gideon has the power to summon portals which he and his teammates can utilize to gain positional advantages during battle. No word yet on how many characters will be included in the launch build of this game, but like any MOBA, I’d imagine the roster will continue to expand far long after the game’s initial release.

We first caught wind of Paragon during Sony’s opening keynote at the PlayStation Experience last December. The pre-rendered trailer they showed caught many people’s eye, but the prospect of Epic Games making a third-person shooter for the PS4 was even more intriguing. Not quite Gears of War, but close enough.

What are your first impressions of Paragon‘s gameplay? Do you think this game has what it takes to be viable in the eSports scene? Toss your thoughts into the comments below.
