PACIFIC RIM UPRISING Trailer Promises the Biggest Kaiju Yet!

As far as we’re concerned, the apocalypse can keep getting un-canceled and re-canceled over and over again. Pacific Rim in 2013 proved just how satisfying it is to see humans in giant robots fighting behemoth monsters for the fate of the planet, and we’ve been licking our jaegery, kaijuy chops to finally see what new fighters we’ll see in Pacific Rim Uprising. Friday, we got the first major trailer for the March 2018 blockbuster and holy Crimson Typhoon, we sure got it up to our faces! Though the new movie doesn’t have Guillermo del Toro as director, Steven S. DeKnight’s movie is definitely not short on spectacle.

It’s a bummer that Kaiju have returned 20 years after the first movie, but at least we’re getting a new batch of Jaegers to beat em with, and in this movie it looks like a lot more of the battles happen in the bright light of day, which is a certainly something new. It also maybe looks like the Jaegers can be piloted remotely, some of the time at least. Seems a decent upgrade, all things considered. That way we don’t have to say goodbye to our favorite pilots even if their Jaegers get the big beat down. And TWO swords this time? Genius, since the sword is the best weapon against Kaiju. It’s proven.

But perhaps the coolest thing about the trailer is the reveal of the biggest Kaiju of them all, a mega-monster so fierce that we’re not sure how anybody could stop it…but we’re willing to bet the five Jaegers we see will give it their best shot!

John Boyega looks like he absolutely owns the movie, but it’s great to see the return of Charlie Day and Burn Gorman from the first movie, as their interactions were some of our favorites in the original.
