Owner of THE GOONIES House Outlaws Truffle Shuffle

The Goonies are apparently not good enough for one Astoria, Oregon homeowner as visits to and views of the iconic house that Mikey and Brandon Walsh called home in the 1985 film of the same name are now prohibited.

The house served as the Walsh family’s home and was made famous — its exterior to be precise — as the setting for the scene where Lawrence “Chunk” Cohen was forced to do the famous “Truffle Shuffle” in order to gain entry. (Hindsight being 20/20, it makes it oh so much worse that Cory Feldman compelled anyone to do anything at all considering his more recent “professional” endeavors.) The home, as one would expect with any iconic movie setting, has attracted more than its fair share of tourists over the last 30 years and unfortunately drove the owner to a breaking point. The property now has signs posted advising visitors to keep their distance.

Now, we’ve all been in the situation where your group of friends banded together to tie Josh Brolin to a chair with exercise equipment in order to go on a treasure hunt to save the neighborhood, so it’s hardly surprising that so many fans showed up to pay homage to the kids who happened to do it first. Unfortunately, the house isn’t even entirely visible anymore as the owner has covered most of it with tarps.

Now there is something to be said about wanting the privacy one expects when owning a home. However, when you own a part of pop culture history, do you really expect the world not to notice? Traffic, litter, and general riffraff can be a nuisance and even a financial drain on upkeep, but is there any good in prohibiting visitors? One would think that may just draw the wrong kind of attention and result in even more unwanted visitors. The fans respectful enough to keep their distance at the advice of the signs will of course listen, but that really only takes care of the crowds who weren’t causing any issue in the first place.

We all know I’m talking drunk truffle shufflers so imagine the following with more than a few beers…

The better alternative in my mind is to embrace the pop culture aspects of things, get the right vantage point for pictures, set up a photo booth and for the love of glob get a dozen more stumps and start charging people for the honor of doing the truffle shuffle outside of the Walsh’s house! Listen to me Astoria homeowner! It’s your time, your time down here to make some serious “rich stuff”.

What do you think of the house being blocked off? Is it what The Goonies would have done? Let us know in the comments below.
