Though Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead is a wild success on AMC, adapting his comic Outcast for TV is a whole different demon. The series was picked up by Cinemax in 2013 before the comic had even debuted from Image Comics and has a less-explored horror sub-genre to tackle: exorcism.
From comics creators Kirkman and Paul Azaceta, Outcast tells the story of Kyle Barnes (portrayed in the show by Patrick Fugit), a tortured soul whose loved ones have been involved in demonic possession since he was a boy. As an adult, he struggles to figure out what is behind these supernatural attacks and why he seems to be at the center of them. And at New York Comic Con this weekend, Fugit, Kirkman, and Outcast showrunner Chris Black came by the Nerdist Wikia Stage to discuss the story’s evolution from comic to TV series.
