And the 88th Academy Awards Nominees Are…

Though the announcement of a given year’s Oscar nominations used to serve, appropriately, as the starting line for the awards race, these days it’s apt to feel more like a marker for the home stretch. The latest batch of nods is only first reaching the public this morning—announcing on ABC starting at 8:30 ET/5:30 PT—but this year’s race has been carrying on for months.

Months of categorizing Academy-friendly frontrunners (like Spotlight), dark horse fan favorites (like Mad Max: Fury Road), and surprising bow-outs (like Steve Jobs). Months of weighting the victories offered by smaller awards organizations in order to better predict who’ll inevitably take home Best Picture. And, of course, months of listening to endless chatter about how hard it was to make The Revenant.

Yes, it’s been a long race—almost as long as The Revenant, speaking of. Heck, some of us were getting into the spirit of things as early as the morning after last year’s ceremony. There’s no harm in feeding into your excitement, though we would recommend holding off on serious wagers until the year’s end. (To think I put so much money on Kevin Nash making it to the Best Supporting Actor short list for Magic Mike XXL… I really could have used that Powerball.)

But now that we’ve reached nomination day, even the most reticent of Oscar fans can offer up their predictions for show night victors. Check below as for live updates of the full list of nominees for the 88th Academy Awards. Let us know who you’re betting on to take home the trophies on February 28!
