So how exactly did Maz Kanata get Luke Skywalker‘s old lightsaber? You know, the one that he dropped when his father cut off his hand on Cloud City… the one that was seemingly lost forever? Yes, yes, we know Maz, it’s a “good question for another time,” but if you’re going to be spending time with your good friend maybe you two could just fill us in quickly. Even if Poe Dameron is busy annoying the both of you.
Luke and Maz really were together recently, when Mark Hamill and Lupita Nyong’o took a picture sharing a warm hug, one that was photo-bombed by Oscar Isaac (who apparently thinks bunny ears are still a thing). Hamil shared the photo of The Force Awakens cast members to his Instagram account.
It really shouldn’t matter, because the only thing that should truly matter to us as moviegoers and Star Wars fans are the quality of the movies they put out, but seeing the genuine love and appreciation the cast seems to have for one another makes it feel like these movies mean as much to them as they do to those of us who obsess over them.
Now if they would just take the time to explain how Maz Kanata came to possess the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker and why it was calling out to Rey, we’ll know that they care about us too.
