Oscar Isaac Cast in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE…As Apocalypse

So, it looks like inside Llewyn Davis is an ancient, world-destroying mutant. I knew folk music was counter-cultural, but this is ridiculous (the oldest of old-timey jokes). Yes, friends, it looks like Oscar Isaac has given over to another massive film franchise, following his inclusion in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, by signing on to Bryan Singer’s follow-up to X-Men: Days of Future Past as the film’s titular villain, En Sabah Nur, known colloquially as Apocalypse.

According to Variety, the talented Mr. Isaac has been signed for the role after Singer saw several actors for the part. He’ll be starring alongside Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult in the third part of the First Class cast trilogy of mutant action movies. X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in the 1980s and is said to feature very young versions of mutants like Scott Summers and Jean Grey. The screenplay has been written by Simon Kinberg, who also wrote the last few.

Apocalypse

For the uninitiated, Apocalypse was introduced into the X-Men comics universe in a 1986 issue of X-Factor, created by writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson Guice. He is a millennia-old being who is possibly the first in history to possess the “mutant x” gene and has spent most of that time attempting to take over the world. Being as old as he is, he possesses a whole heap of powers, including teleportation, energy manipulation, technopathy, psionic abilities, and our old friend immortality. Pretty much, he’s a bad, bad man.

In addition to Star Wars, Isaac will appear in J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year and Alex Garland’s Ex Machina and will be the lead in the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero.

HT: Slashfilm

Are you excited about Oscar Isaac being cast as Apocalypse? He’s got to be one of the most dynamic and interesting actors working in Hollywood today and I’m personally thrilled that he’ll be able to add a couple more huge box office draws to his dossier along with his stellar indie work. Inside Llewyn Davis was my favorite movie of 2013 and Isaac had a lot to do with that, so onward and upward, I say.
