Oh Hi, Mark: Tommy Wiseau’s THE NEIGHBORS TV Show is Apparently Coming Soon

Part of me wants to just write “what is this I don’t even,” link to the two videos and call it a day, but I can’t. Because there is too much to say when Tommy Wiseau is involved. Most of it involving a series of noises rather than words, but we’ll make due however we can. Did you know Tommy Wiseau,  of The Room fame made a television show back in 2004? He did! It was called The Neighbors and now, apparently, it’s coming for you, Internet — so watch out!

According to The AV Club, the series, which was originally shot in 2004, was re-announced on Tuesday, when Wiseau launched a website for the allegedly-shot pilot, claiming that the whole thing would be coming to us all whether we like it or not in September of this year. And in the 10 years that have passed since the series’ creation? Apparently nothing has changed. The series’ teaser shows Wiseau in his totally bizarre, seemingly unintentional-but-running-with-it-now brand of existence, doing, well, pretty much exactly what he did in The Room: a lot of weird sh*t that ultimately leads to nothing. Hey James Franco — are you listening?

Homeboy’s even wearing a terrible wig (is he cosplaying Rust Cohle?), having a “wild and ca-ray-zay!” party with a bunch of random “woo!”ing folks, and literally not a single bit of plot to be seen. There’s even Tommy Wiseau-branded underwear! “Finally,” your ass is probably thinking.

The synopsis for the series — which is up on the website — is also, well, a thing that we’re just going to leave right here for you sans comment because I meaaaaaaaaaan:

Oh and this GIF from the site because duh:

So — yeah? Let us know in the comments.

I love Tommy Wiseau’s intensity, and gladly went along for the ride.  But I’m more amused by the the affronted reviews than the movie itself.  His work stirs people.  I hope he makes more, so that I can enjoy reading the reactions. Besides, a wise man once said, “If a lot of people love each other, the world will be a better place to live.”

  2. Tommy Wiseau should be discouraged from ever making another film project.  After watching “The Room” (Ninety-nine minutes of my life that I’ll never get back), I felt psychologically spat upon.

Consciously, I never made it to the credits.  My mind retreated to a small happy place that I reserve for head traumas and Ronald Reagan films.

That movie hurt me.  It really, really hurt me.

    • Heather says:

Many people do not like it on the first view. You have to give it a chance, and you have to appreciate absurdest art.

    • Nick says:

I’ve watched it once sober.  And about 12 times while playing “The Room” drinking game.  It’s much more entertaining that way.

    You’re tearing me apart Lisa!

Has anyone informed “How Did This Get Made?”?

    Who’s Tommy Wiseau?

    Make do, not make due

  11. This is why television is a thing, I can’t wait.

  12. bop says:

I know Tim and Eric tried to get this on some network but they wanted Tommy to have no input from anyone who has made a TV show and let him have his own vision but he wanted his own version of “Friends”

  13. pfaffinger says:

That tie is massive and doubles as a talent deflector.

  14. David says:

I work in casting, and I recently auditioned an actress whose resume included “The Neighbors.” I asked her about it and she said it had been recently shot and was being shopped around. I think Adult Swim should jump on that immediately. Also, what channel is Comedy TV?

  15. Kieran says:

This is the TV show the world has been waiting for and, quite frankly, I can’t wait

  16. Illusion-XIII says:

I’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for this, although frankly I’d be more interested in the old, pre “The Room” content than a new series.  What made “The Room” work was the fact that Tommy earnestly believed he was creating a serious work of genius.  The comedy comes from the fact that he had no idea he was making a comedy.A current, self-aware Tommy Wiseau isn’t going to be nearly as entertaining, because then he’ll be trying to be ridiculous on purpose.

    • Brandon says:

Read the article. It says this series was recorded 10 years ago.

    • Evolve says:

Given that he made a dark moody drama into a a comedy, I fully suspect that this Comedy will quickly become a dark gritty psychological thriller.

    • a dozen red roses please says:

The Room was only released in 2003, so I’d call it a stretch to think this show was a result of Wiseau perceiving any success as being caused by his incompetence

    • “A current, self-aware Tommy Wiseau?”  Were even a creature like that in existence, it would immediately take its own life while hurling its body into a septic tank.

  17. Bert R Payne says:

On the Neighbors’ Facebook page, there are ads for this featuring Andy Dick and Ron Jeremy. I can’t even…what?!?!?
