Oh Geeky Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

December 25th is inching ever closer, but you still have time to put up and trim a tree. You can make your Christmas tree a living (or fake) representation of your favorite fandoms with just a little work. Themed ornaments, nerdy tree toppers, and homemade garland can do wonders to transform your tree and take it to the next level. If you need some inspiration, don’t worry, I’ve rounded up five beautiful and geeky Christmas trees to help you come up with ideas.

LEGO Christmas Tree

Forget messing with pine needles, real or otherwise, and construct an entire tree from LEGO blocks. A green plastic fir was erected in the Pitt Street Mall in Sydney, Australia, and stands at almost 33 feet tall. It weighs a whopping 3.5 tons so you’d obviously need to scale it down a little (or a lot) for your home, but it’s a fun idea.

Harry Potter Christmas Tree

Jen of EPBOT and her husband John are always making amazing things (like a custom Supernatural Crowley Funko Pop! figure), and this holiday season they’re hard at work on a Harry Potter-themed tree. They made 30 golden snitches, a cauldron tree stand, and floating candles, and the whole tree is topped with a white owl. It looks magical, and it’s not even done yet!

Groot and Rocket Raccoon Christmas Tree

There ain’t no Christmas tree like me except me. This delightfully nerdy Guardians of the Galaxy tree topper was made by DeviantArt user witchcraftywolfen. She made the Groot topper from foam and Crayola Model Magic and because Groot must always be with his pal, she also made a Rocket Raccoon Plush.

Doctor Who Christmas Tree

Bring a little bit of time and space to your home with a Doctor Who-themed Christmas tree. DeviantArt user noxzimbyp went to town with her decorations: the Fourth Doctor scarf was painted onto a strip of fabric, the light up TARDIS was constructed from 4×6 inch glass from photo frames (genius), and many ornaments were fashioned with an aluminum foil and paper mache combo. I love all the different ornaments like the adipose and the Converse sneakers.

Legend of Zelda Christmas Tree

Go on an adventure and choose to adorn your tree with characters and items from The Legend of Zelda games. B3 Designs put together these Hyrule-iffic decorations last year. There’s a Triforce tree topper, clear ornaments that contain fairies (non-talking ones, I assume), an ocarina ornament, Majora’s mask, and more.

These are awesome. My Christmas Tree is pretty nerdy itself, filled with Star Wars mostly, but also other things like Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, and The Walking Dead. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152722572892639.1073741829.723857638&type=1&l=5563b2e302

I love the Cthulu tree! All of them actually! This was from last year, this year we have King Kong climbing the tree and Yoda is our topper. Most of the ornaments are homemade. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=249049551914380&set=a.249049405247728.1073741835.100004280109299&type=3&theater

Why limit yourself to one theme? We have Star Wars, Dr Who, Batman, various Marvel, Supernatural, and Lord of the Rings, in our tree. There’s even a subtle Star Trek presence with a figure of Picard dressed as Dixon Hill.
