NYCC: Telltale Games Drops New GAME OF THRONES Teaser

Like Ilyn Payne at a Ted Talk, Telltale Games hasn’t said much about their highly anticipated follow-up to The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands: their forthcoming Game of Thrones game. So far, all we have to go on is the knowledge that all men must die and this cryptic teaser they tweeted out during PAX earlier this summer.

From that little poster, we were able to glean that the game will likely focus on a member or members of Clan Forrester, who are from House Subaru one of the clans that serve Stark bannermen House Glover in and around Deepwood Motte. As you may remember, we saw Deepwood Motte on the show — it was one of the territories conquered by Yara Greyjoy (Theon’s sister) during the Greyjoy’s Great Northern Vacation.

Now, just in time for New York Comic Con, we have another clue courtesy of the mystery maesters over at Telltale. They just tweeted out the following image:

Aha! The plot is thickening like so many lemon cakes in so many Sansa Starks! For those of you who don’t know, the Ironwoods are a type of tree found Beyond the Wallâ„¢ in northern Westeros known for their hard, black wood (hence the name “ironwood”). The quote comes from A Game of Thrones when Catelyn visits Ned in the Godswood at Winterfell. Fun fact: the doors to the crypts below Winterfell where the Starks of centuries past slumber are also made of Ironwood.

This is not to be confused with Yronwood, the Dornish castle where Quentyn Martell was fostered, but rather it is meant to imply that we will likely be following a member of the Forrester clan Beyond the Wallâ„¢ where the Ironwood trees grow. Will we encounter White Walkers? Will we have a real chill time with Mance Rayder and the gang? Will we see some crazy spooky trees? Only time will tell.

Unless of course Telltale is trying to trick us and make us unable to see the Forrester from the trees. Oh, come on, where are you going? That was pretty good. Anyway, that’s all we have for now as far as Game of Thrones is concerned. Telltale also announced that The Wolf Among Us is coming to next-gen consoles earlier this morning. We’ll start shooting down every raven we see on Twitter in an effort to glean more info, until I’m finally able to Warg into the writers’ room and let you know what’s going down for real.

    Asha Greyjoy. Please, not Yara.

If this is how the game goes down … I would be so happy. Using unknown characters in a familiar setting gives Telltale a chance to tell whatever story they want in the rich, detailed word of Westeros. Can’t wait
