Now You Can Eat Gudetama, Sanrio’s Lazy Egg, in Hawaii

For a lazy egg, that Gudetama sure is a mover and a shaker: Sanrio may be known for creating Hello Kitty, but it’s the sleepiest egg that has captured fans’ hearts lately. He’s so popular that just last year, Plan Check had a Gudetama take over offering up indulgent egg dishes for Los Angeles fans. Now Hawaii gets its turn as the kawaii Sanrio character teams up with aptly named Eggs ‘n Things, the popular eatery that’s been serving the island for over 42 years.

For the month of October, locals can visit any three of the Eggs ‘n Things locations which will all be happily serving up two different all-egg Gudetama themed meals.

The first being the Gudetama Sleepy Menu. The main dish is a local favorite, Loco Moco. Ground beef patties and rice served with gravy and eggs featuring Gudetama’s signature smirk. To really push home the sleepy idea, the eggs will be wrapped in bacon blankets, a snug meal for a tired egg. I can’t imagine a better life than being tucked in at night with a bacon blanket.

The Sleepy Menu is served with a whipped cream topped hot chocolate which is decorated with Gudetama’s face. As if that weren’t enough, dessert is included but it’s more like a second meal. A full sized pancake with lemon frosting, whipped cream, berries and chocolate sauce. After all that food you’ll definitely need a nap.

After you’ve lazily slept off that huge brunch, you may be ready to go back for the second meal. The Gudetama Lazy Menu kicks off with a huge iced coffee, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of Gudetama. This will wake you up as you get ready to indulge in a burger topped with a Gudetama -faced egg and a side of fries. Room for dessert? You guessed it, you get a big old order of Gudetama frosting topped pancakes. I wouldn’t call you lazy if you made your way through that meal, because it’s certainly a feat.

Gudetama may be lazy but he’s also charitable. A portion of the proceeds from each meal promotion will be donated to Japan Society’s Kumamoto Relief Fund for the victims of the latest earthquake in Japan. For more information, visit: japansociety.org/earthquake.

The Gudetama themed meals will be available at Hawaii Eggs ‘n Things locations through October 28.
