Now We Can Know What Noctis from FINAL FANTASY XV Smells like

Tokyo Game Show has given us so much in announcements for new games, release dates, details, and whatever else you might what, so of course Square Enix found it the perfect place to show off a new fragrance based on the protagonist of the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. Set up at their booth on the show floor, Square Enix offered samples of their “Final Fantasy eau de toilette <Noctis>” and Brian Ashcraft over on Kotaku got a chance to check it out and give it a sniff or two.

According to him, the fragrance has a hint of lemony freshness, and people he talked to also compared it to a popular Japanese beverage called Ramune, or “marble soda” as some in the United States may know it as. So it seems that all that brooding and dark clothing doesn’t mean that Noctis can’t also have a clean citrus twist to him.

Initially, my thought would be that it is strange to be releasing this kind of tie-in product for a video game, but the truth is, it really isn’t all that uncommon. So many other products in nerd culture have their own cologne, or perfume, and anything else a logo can be slapped onto. However, it tends to be more commonly done after-the-fact when whatever the basis for the fragrance is proven to have had some kind of cultural impact. It also usually isn’t spearheaded by the company that made the game, or whomever the IP owner might be, themselves. Apparently, Square Enix has been promoting this cologne for years now, seeing as Final Fantasy XV has been in production for nearly a decade, and could easily bank on the appeal of the franchise itself, which is one of the most well known in gaming.

Would you wear a Final Fantasy cologne or perfume? Who else would you want one themed after? Let us know in the comments below.
