NO MAN’S SKY Finally Has a Release Date

Well, it looks like we can officially put to rest the rumors that Hello Games was stealth releasing No Man’s Sky today. The highly anticipated space exploration game will completely miss the 2015 launch window and will instead drop in June 2016, barring any development snags on the way. Now that’s a bummer. The announcement came in the middle of Sony’s Paris Games Week conference, and I think most of us can agree that we all sort of expected this outcome. As much as I wanted the game to launch today, it just wasn’t a realistic expectation. The team also dispelled the rumors on Twitter leading up to this big conference, probably because they didn’t want everyone to be disappointed.

Tthis changes nothing about what we already knew. The sheer scope the of the game is still spectacular, and it could be an immensely impressive game if we ever get to play it. To be fair, the team behind this game is actually really small, so it’s insane that they’ve been able to create a massive galaxy. I’m still skeptical on the minute to minute gameplay, but Stephen Colbert seemed to enjoy simply walking around a random planet, naming the newly discovered wildlife. I was also surprised that there was no mention of this game being playable on PlayStation VR. It seems like a match made in heaven.

What really caught me off guard is how late into next year we will have to wait for this game. I thought maybe a February, or even late March window would have been ideal. At least we have more games to look forward to next year.

How do you feel about waiting until June of 2016 to get your hands on this? Are you still hyped? Let us know in the comments below.
