Nintendo Switch Debuts on FALLON, and Miyamoto Performs the MARIO Theme

Last night’s episode of The Tonight Show had a lot to love if you’re a gamer. Of course, it helps when the host is a big gamer himself, as Jimmy Fallon clearly is. On this occasion, Fallon had the privilege of being one of the first to get a hands-on demo with the Nintendo Switch!

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé came out with a few surprises for the late night host. First: Fallon was given the chance to play the new mobile game Super Mario Run, which looks like a winning throwback to the days of Mario yore. Second: A surprise appearance from Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Mario, Donkey Kong, the Legend of Zelda games. So, no pressure! Fallon did pretty well in the brief time that he played the newest Mario title, thanks to Fils-Aimé encouraging him to get the special coins and the invincibility star.

Fils-Aimé then allowed Fallon to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch on both the large screen and as a handheld console. Fils-Aimé plugged a January 12th event where Nintendo plans to make more announcements about the Switch, but this was its live debut on North American television.

As an added bonus, Miyamoto sat in with The Roots and performed a cover of the very famous theme from the original Super Mario Bros.

We knew that Miyamoto was a talented visionary, but we didn’t know he could play music too! Now we kind of want to hear Miyamoto cover more of the famous Nintendo musical themes.

What did you think about the early look at Super Mario Run and Breath of the Wild? Should Miyamoto go on a Nintendo music tour? Let us know in the comment section below!
