Custom Amiibo Pays Tribute to Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata

Two years ago, the video game industry mourned the loss of Satoru Iwata, the fourth President and CEO of Nintendo. During Iwata’s long career with the company, he oversaw the development of the Nintendo DS and Wii video game consoles, and he became beloved by fans for his passion and for his Nintendo Direct videos. Iwata would have been 58 years old this week, and as a tribute to his life and legacy, a few Nintendo fans took it upon themselves to bestow Iwata with a custom Amiibo figure.

Via Kotaku, this very impressive creation was made by GandaKris, a popular custom Amiibo artist. The Satoru Iwata Amiibo appears to incorporate elements of Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, and Kid Icarus. The box art by Seth Hay and Cat with Monocle is also a thing of beauty and it could probably pass for the real thing. But what really touches us is Iwata’s quote that was mentioned in the tweet. “In my heart, I am a gamer.”

GandaKris also posted a video on her YouTube channel that depicted the steps she takes to create her Satoru Iwata custom Amiibos, which she only occasionally makes for charity and giveaways.
