Nintendo Pushes STAR FOX ZERO Back to 2016

If you’re a Wii U owner who was looking forward to Star Fox Zero, then you’re going to have wait a little bit longer. Nintendo has announced that Star Fox Zero has been delayed until early 2016. On Facebook, Nintendo’s legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto offered more details about why the decision was made to push back Star Fox Zero.

“We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year,” said Miyamoto. “Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens… While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more.”

Miyamoto also noted that the level designs will be further polished and that the Star Fox Zero development team will be “perfecting the tone of the cut scenes.”

The major consequence of this delay is that Nintendo no longer has a major first-party title to release on the Wii U during the 2015 holiday season. The Legend of Zelda for Wii U had already slipped back to 2016 and there’s nothing on the immediate horizon that can fill the void left by two delayed AAA titles. Potentially, that could mean very bad news for Wii U sales at one of the most critical times of the year.
