Nintendo Officially Announces New 3DS XL For February US Release

The rumors of a New Nintendo 3DS XL being announced today have proven to be 100% fact. Nintendo officially confirmed that the New 3DS XL will indeed be coming to the United States on February 13, during this morning’s Nintendo Direct. And just in time for Valentine’s Day! Check out Jessica and I’s first impressions:

Priced at $199, this iteration of the 3DS XL comes with a slew of upgrades and new features including NFC support for Amiibo figures, an additional analog pad (which will come in handy while playing Super Smash Bros.), a faster processor, and 3D face tracking. Take a peek at the red and black launch editions of the New 3DS XL:

The New 3DS XL also will also release in two limited editions cases. The first is themed after Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which is an updated version of the original Monster Hunter 4 game that released in Japan in September of 2013. The game is finally getting a US release, and will be bundled with the New 3DS XL. Have a look at it in all of its blue-and-silver glory:

The second limited edition New Nintendo 3DS XL is themed after none other than The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Drizzled in gold, this version of the New 3DS XL features four of the game’s Link-altering mask. Take a look:

The Majora’s Mask bundle will not include the game, unfortunately. Also strangely omitted from the New 3DS XL package is an AC adapter, which could wind up being an issue for anyone who’s making their first jump ever to the dual screen generation of Nintendo portables. You can use any Nintendo 3DS, 2DS, 3DS XL, or DSi charger with the New Nintendo 3DS XL, so keep that in mind if you’re going to be purchasing the new 3DS XL on day one.

What do you guys think of the New Nintendo 3DS XL? Do you plan on purchasing either of the limited edition versions? Tap your thoughts into the comments below.

  4. Great says:

Sold out within 5 minutes of posting on all sites.  What a joke.  I don’t even want to buy Nintendo’s stuff anymore.

  5. Dan says:

note for revision, its 4 altering masks for link and then the majora mask in the center. link never wears it.

  6. Megan says:

It sucks that all pre-orders are sold out and it took less than an hour for that to happen.  I hope there’s another chance to get one!

  7. Chase says:

Thevideo for the release of the Majora’s Mask bundle includes the ending tag “Pre-Installed Software” under the Majora’s Mask logo. So it probably DOES come with the game?

  8. Troytle says:

Why the two different images for the Majora’s Mask edition? The one at the top of the article looks great, the one in the body looks… pretty lame?

    • Smailien says:

The one in the body is someones custom 3DS decal, not the actual New N3DS.  Not sure how they didn’t notice that.

    • wpcloki says:

The one in the body isn’t a “new” 3DS. Looks like an original 3DS XL that somebody customized that happens to have an incredibly similar design on it lol.

  9. Dizzlemits says:

Yet still no news on the original 3DS/3DS XL/2DS NFC adapter for Amiibos? Shame on you, Nintendo.
